| So a blog seems in order to sort of.... "sort" out my crazy summer life as of right now.
HOBY- Oh wow. What can I say? I had such a blast and it was one of the greatest highs of my entire life. Tuesday night, we (J-staff) hung out at Allie Mason's house and swam (well I didn't) and just chilled. It was so nice to finally see everyone after 3 months and just catch up on everything. Wednesday consisted of us just deocrating and getting ready, and once again, more hanging out! And then Thursday came.....the ambassadors came! I must say rushing cars has become one of my favorite pastimes :). My ambassadors were awesome, they were so responsive and happy, they were just an inspiration to me. By the end of the time, I was soo not ready to leave, but I was sort of forced to, I had boys' state that same day. That drive was probably one of the longest and most depressing ones I've ever had in my life.
Boys' State- Oh what can I say, I showed up, was in a bad mood, not ready for the "polticial crap" that I knew was coming. But I decided to just be positive about it, I was staying there for 6 days anyway, might as well make it worthwile. The first day was literally hell. After getting an 1 1/2 hours of sleep the night before, and coming off a depressing two hour drive from Wichita to Manhattan, I was about to shoot myself. And to make matters worse, that was the day you had to declare your intent for office. And I had decided long before I was running for Commissioner of Insurance (state executive office), so now not only did I have to deal w/ all my personal problems of being depressed and tired, now I had to convince others to support my campaign and gather votes. So I tried and got precinct, which forms the platform which the party sits on (I was a Nationalist). So if I wasn't in meetings or running around PACs(Political Action Committee) getting monetary and political support, I was crashing at any placei I could find. But lo and behold, after two days of work, I won the primary (party nomination)! I felt so blessed by God at that point, for giving me the chance and the honor to make it that far and given the chance to be a part of something that I have never experienced before. After the debate the next day though, I found out I lost the general election. My balloon was sort of deflated, but then I realized just how much of a learning experience the whole campaigning process was for me, and I still felt so blessed to have made it so far. This is when I began to realize I might enjoy a career in politics. I still think that I am too "nice" of a person to ever make it, there's just a lot of morally corrupt things going on (ahem, Farmers' Alliance). But that isn't going to change unless someone attempts to fix it. After my lost, I got appointed Assistant Secretary of State to Dylan Works (who i befriended during campaigning), so I still had an awesome high-up job. The next few days just consisted of a lot of work, but it made me not want to leave. Overall, the entire experience was just such a nice awakening, and made me realize just how much difference I can make in the political spectrum. It differed from HOBY because HOBY changed my life profoundly as a leader and gave me the self-confidence to "go for the gold". Becasue of that, I ran for office, taking account that I could fail, and ultimately, I did lose my election. But I learned so much more from that loss and learning about the political world, I don't really consider myself a "loser" after all that work and effort. I just hope I am allowed to come back next year and give the next round of kids the same experience as I had!
And now, it's Tuesday. I came home on Saturday, and now I'm leaving tomorrow for 3 weeks. One of which consists of NASC (National Stuco) at BVNW in Kansas City, then two weeks in New York, one of which is at EFL at Cornell and the other just vacationing and college visiting up and down the eastern seaboard. So just call me sometime, and I'll answer. I miss everyone, from HOBY, from Boys' State, and everyone back here in Chanute!
